Louis Kalff (1897–1976) designed this modern lamp and it was produced by Philips Holland. Due to its shape, this lamp is often called the UFO lamp. The lamp shade and base are painted matte black and the plug and lamp holder are made of bakelite. The inside of the lampshade has a light colour to enhance the reflection of the light.  The neck is flexible, which means the lampshade can be bent in all directions. The lampshade features the Philips emblem, like it can be found on several well-known lamps by Louis Kalff.

Besides being a designer, Louis Kalff was also a successful architect.   The design of this lamp resembles the shape of the Philips 'Evoluon' exhibition centre.  The architectural masterpiece by Louis Kalff which was realised in 1966 in Eindhoven. 

Louis Kalff has designed many iconic lamps for Philips. He also was the designer of the world-renowned Philips logo.
