A very cool combination of sample-bases sounds and FM synthesis. 

PSS-680 "Music Station" Portatone from Yamaha from 1988 - with 100 very good sounds. Furthermore an extensive FM Synthesizer, Pitch Bend Wheel, very good effects like portamento, Stereo Chorus, Reverb and Sustain, MIDI in/out/thu, and with Custom (programmable) Drummer. Very rare mini synth, packed with beautiful and very usable sounds and features.

Features:
- 61 mini-keys
- 100 very nice and unique sounds, especially a lot of synth, synth brass, brass, and string sounds are very nice, but also all other sounds have a unique character, very usable sounds for Pop, Electro, Hiphop, Dance, etc.
- These sounds can be edited with the FM synthesizer parameters, very many cool FM synthesizer sounds are at your fingertips, a unique "poor man's DX7"
- FM Synth parameters: 2 Operator FM Synthesis with control over Attack Rate (0-63) from Operator 1 and Operator 2, Decay Rate (0-63) from Operator 1 and Operator 2, Frequency (0-15) from Operator 1 and Operator 2, Feedback Level (0-7) to Operator 1, Modulation Level (0-99) and Overall Level (0-99) of the two Operators combined
- 8 Percussion Pads (*) with a choice of 4 banks, so 32 sounds in total (very cool 12-bit drum samples) 
- Pitch Bend Wheel
- Coole Sound Effects with choice of Vibrato, Duet, Sustain, Reverb, Stereo Chorus and Portamento
- 100 accompaniment patterns, something for everyone (*)
- Choice of Single Fingered and Fingered to drive the accompaniment patterns with

(*) Please note: The blue pads which control the drum sounds and the accompaniment styles do not work entirely properly: They only respond when pressing very hard. It could be possibly be resolved a simple repair. Via MIDI (channel 1) the (very solid!) drum sounds can all be played live.


In short, a special and rare Mini Synthesizer, from the early days of the famous Yamaha synths. Because of the nice MIDI possibilities, but mainly because of the very special sounds, it is an asset to any studio.
