Beautiful 1960s Eames Lounge Chair, produced by Herman Miller made of Rio rosewood and black leather.

This Eames Lounge Chair with ottoman is very unique, considering that it is an old piece, the second production series from the 1960s, in unused / mint condition. 

This Lounge Chair has become an icon in the history of furniture design, but not many people bought this exclusive chair, which was also expensive back then. Let alone that someone bought one and then wouldn't use it, as was the case with this one. 

Long before the chair was as well-known as it is now,  the Eames Lounge Chair used to be something esoteric, something for insiders such as architects, or people with a far-reaching interest in modern design.

This chair is completely in its original configuration. The leather is original (the softest glove leather) and in very good condition;  has no cracks or damage. 

The Rio rosewood has almost no (sunlight) UV damage; the colour is still a nice dark combination of dark red-brown-gold tones. The shells are structurally sound, free of tears or cracks. Rio rosewood has not been used since the 1990s, due to overexploitation of the tropical rainforest in Brazil. Charles and Ray Eames originally opted for it, as it was one of the most luxurious, if not the most luxurious woods available. What most shows the age of the chair is actually a subtle oxidation patina (can be easily buffed out with "chrome polish", but I don't like to remove patina) and some minor impact damage (caused during vacuuming) on the aluminium parts. Please view, for example, the foot of the ottoman in the last photo. In addition, one small dent on the trim of the right armrest (see last photo). Besides that, the set is actually undamaged.

This auction provides you with the unique opportunity to, as it were, travel back in time to the 1960s and buy this Eames Lounge new, and travel back to the present time. You understand that something like this can't be found or actually can't exist, because people buy an Eames Lounge to sit on, not to preserve it. Moreover because the older production runs of the chair with a down top layer in the cushions, such as this one, are so comfortable to sit / lie down on. 

The versions from the 1960s, like this one, were partly filled with down and feathers, making the chair as soft as a duvet. The type of leather is of a quality that is no longer allowed and therefore can no longer be made, given that the (chemical) agents that were used for tanning the hides back then are now prohibited. (nowadays there mainly ECO leather is used, which is quite different from the leather on this chair)

This set is already a real collector's item, but will also increase in value as is typical for rare Eames chairs. 

All in all a beautiful and very special Eames Lounge which can be used right away if desired, carefree and for decades to come. You can also just look at it, as the previous owner did for the last 60 years.
