Rare convocation au Sacre de Napoléon, qui aura lieu cinq semaines plus tard :

« La divine providence et les constitutions de l’Empire ayant placé la dignité impériale héréditaire dans notre famille, nous avons désigné le 11e jour du mois de Frimaire prochain [2 décembre 1804] pour la cérémonie de notre sacre et de notre couronnement. Nous aurions voulu pouvoir, dans cette auguste circonstance, rassembler sur un seul point l’universalité des citoyens qui composent la Nation française. Toutefois, et dans l’impossibilité de réaliser une chose qui aurait eu tant de prix pour notre cœur, désirant que ces solennités reçoivent leur principal éclat de la réunion d’un grnad nombre de citoyens par leur dévouement à l’Etat et à notre personne, nous vous faisons cette lettre pour que vous ayez à vous trouver à Paris avant le 7 du mois de frimaire prochain et à y faire connaître votre arrivée à notre Grand Maître des cérémonies. »

Signé « Napoléon » par le secrétaire qui a rédigé la lettre, et contresigné par Hugues MARET, duc de Bassano (signature autographe), alors Secrétaire d’Etat.
