IRMA BOOM: SHV 1896-1996
Toen dit elf centimeter dikke boek, dat 2.136 ongenummerde pagina’s telt, in 1996 verscheen, veroorzaakte het een sensatie.  Dit vanwege de druktechnische hoogstandjes waarmee het is vervaardigd: laserdruk, perforaties, complexe rasters en andere.

Stellig is dit het duurste jubileumboek dat ooit is verschenen. Vormgeefster Irma Boom en kunsthistoricus Johan Pijnappel kregen van Paul Fentener van Vlissingen (1941-2006) de opdracht om ter gelegenheid van het 100 jr bestaan van de Steenkolen Handels-Vereeniging (SHV) een boek te maken dat aansloot bij het motto van dit familiebedrijf: ‘Look for the unusual’. Ze werkten vijf jaar aan dit boek dat uiteindelijk zo’n 1,3 miljoen euro kostte.

Voor het binnenwerk werd speciaal papier gemaakt dat eeuwen houdbaar blijft. In de losse rug werd een stalen plaat toegevoegd, die de jaartallen 1896 en 1996 op het boekblok zó weerspiegelt dat er ‘2096’ komt te staan .Op de snede van het is een tulpenveld afgedrukt. Drukkerij Rosbeek in Nuth moest drie maanden lang al het andere werk stilleggen om dit boek te kunnen drukken.
