In den 1980er Jahren machte sich eine ganze Generation auf, die „vom Deutschen Werkbund vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg begründet, vom Bauhaus meisterhaft exerziert und nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg von der Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm zur Perfektion“ /1 geführte „Tradition der Guten Form“ /2 in Frage zu stellen. Mittendrin auch Christoph R. Siebrasse und Rainer Schenk mit ihrer 1986 gegründeten Gruppe Confrontation: Art + Design (CONARDE, später CAD). Ihre Objekte belegen, dass man eine Tradition nicht überwinden, sondern formal und semantisch überprüfen und zitieren kann.
