Edwardian Sterling Silver pair of candlesticks, in a Corinthian Neoclassical style with bead-edged borders, removable nozzles, fluted style columns and square stepped bases with hand-chased swags of decoration.

Made in Birmingham, 1904
Made by Gorham Manufacturing Co (they where also based in USA, Rhode Island, in England they operate as importer as well. This pair has the import letter but is not imported.)
Fully English hallmarked for sterling silver.

The dimensions of this fine pair of hand-made antique silver candlesticks are:
Length 21 cm
Wide at base 10.5 x 10.5 cm
Approx. 749 + 756 = 1505 grams (weighted for stability) (scones weigh 50 grams together).

Condition: Very good condition. Two dents on on scone, see picture 6, the left one. Next to that some tiny pinprick indentations here and there on the base. One has a very small lean to one side.

(Interesting to read about the makers mark: 
Gorham Mfg Co acted as importer in the UK and, later, sponsor/maker of sterling silver ware manufactured in the UK. Their first English agency has been opened in London in 1894 (32 Essex Street, Strand). New showrooms were opened in 1904 (Ely Place, Holborn). In 1909 they took an English factory, previously owned by Henry Emanuel of Birmingham who remained as superintendent. Adjoining Time Works, the premises of William Erhardt Ltd, watch manufacturers (214 Barr Street, Birmingham) the factory was known as Sterling Works. Gorham, maintaining the factory until the outbreak of WWI, was a large exhibitor at the Jewellers' Exhibitions of 1913 and 1914. Gorham entered various GMCo hallmarks at Birmingham Assay Office and London Assay Office (1904, 1910) but the first mark was entered by John Henry Buck (JHB) in 1894 for the interest of Gorham as importer.)
