Folke Pålsson baseou seu design na cadeira clássica Windsor dos anos 1960, que ele simplificou um estilo tipicamente dinamarquês. Folke Pålsson fazia parte do coletivo de design FDB. O FDB foi fundado após a Segunda Guerra Mundial e seu objetivo era fazer móveis acessíveis para uso diário seguindo o modelo da Bauhaus alemã. Pålsson é especialmente conhecido por esta cadeira J77.
