Over de kunstenaar

De Parijse juwelier René Delavan werd geboren in 1896 en werd samen met L. Guilbaud en Jean Després een van de belangrijkste Franse ontwerpers van de Art Deco periode. Hij begon met het creëren van uniek ontworpen zilverwerk in zijn ambachtelijke ateliers in Parijs in het begin van de jaren 1920.
De kunstnijverheid van Delavan is tijdloos en wordt nog steeds gewaardeerd door verzamelaars over de hele wereld.
Opmerkelijk is dat de ontwerper naast theepotten en koffiepotten ook sieraden maakte in art-decostijl. Zijn modernistische zilveren en tinnen ontwerpen zijn tegenwoordig zeer verzamelwaardig. Traditioneel werd het label voorzien van het gestileerde "R.Delavan" (vaak gesigneerd op de voorkant) of de initialen R.D.. Ook "R. Delavan Decorateur Paris Etain D'Art", "travail en marteau" (hamerwerk), of/en étain (tin).
Rene Delavan werkte actief tot aan zijn dood in 1958.
