Ernest Patris was een Belgisch expressionistisch schilder, keramist en beeldhouwer van bustes, portretten, hoofden, figuren en monumenten. Oorspronkelijk werkzaam als cartoonist en modelleur, begon hij als hobby met klei te werken. Daarna schreef hij zich in aan de Gilly Vocational School om te leren werken met brons en aan de Gentse Academie om anatomie te studeren. Aangemoedigd en begeleid door James Ensor, een belangrijke Belgische expressionistische en surrealistische schilder van die tijd, wijdde de jonge Patris zich volledig aan de beeldhouwkunst. Later in zijn leven richtte hij een keramiekatelier op, begon toen een bronsgieterij, waarna hij een galerie exploiteerde en openbare opdrachten bleef doen tot zijn dood in 1981.
