Dit is een zogenaamd reisklokje of "carriage clock" van Richard & Cie, een bekend merk dat in 1848 in Parijs (als Lemaitre & Bergnann) werd opgericht en gespecialiseerd was in het maken van hoogwaardige klokken. Richard & Co stonden bekend om hun vakmanschap, gebruik van messing behuizingen, en vaak sierlijke ontwerpen zoals dit exemplaar. Ze adverteerden in die tijd met het aanbieden van "Franse antieke klokken en koetsklokken (carriage clocks)".

Kenmerken van Richard & Cie klokjes:

1.	Stijl en afwerking: De behuizing is meestal van gepolijst messing, vaak met glazen panelen rondom.
2.	Mechanisch uurwerk: Dit klokje van Richard & Cie toont een handmatig opwindmechanisme, wat     typerend is voor de periode waarin de klok is gemaakt. De originele opwindsleutel is aanwezig.
3.	Herkenning: De naam "Richard & Cie" kan op het uurwerk of de wijzerplaat staan, samen met andere markeringen die de herkomst bevestigen.
4.	Gebruik: Deze klokken waren ontworpen om compact en draagbaar te zijn, populair onder reizigers in de 19e eeuw.
5.	"R & C Made in France": Dit bevestigt dat het klokje is geproduceerd door Richard & Cie, met een uurwerk afkomstig uit Frankrijk. 
6.	Fijn afgestelde details: De decoratie en afwerking van het uurwerk wijzen op een kwalitatief hoogwaardige productie, wat gebruikelijk was voor luxe reisklokken van Richard & Cie.
7.	Inscripties op achterkant klokje: Aangezien het een Frans uurwerk is kunnen de letters F en T links- en rechtsboven verwijzen naar een afstelmechanisme: F = Fast(sneller laten lopen) en T = Tard(langzamer laten lopen).
