ABOUT THE BOOK:
"War Primer 2" is a contemporary reinterpretation of Bertolt Brecht’s War Primer.

In Brecht's original 1955 book, he compiled photos from World War II with his own short poems to critique the relationship between war, media, and propaganda.

"War Primer 2" updates this concept to focus on the War on Terror. They superimpose images of the contemporary war, including found images from the internet, social media, and mainstream news, over Brecht's original pages.

The project highlights the visual nature of modern warfare and its representation in mass media, showing how the realities of conflict are mediated and controlled in the digital age. The work critiques the omnipresence of war imagery and how digital culture distorts our understanding of these conflicts. Through this juxtaposition of historical and modern images, "War Primer 2" questions how war is represented and consumed today.


ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHERS:
The artist duo Broomberg & Chanarin have achieved an international reputation for their photographic, moving image and performance works that grapple with themes around warfare, surveillance, historical truth and the challenging of authority.

They are represented in the collections of Tate, MoMA, the V&A and Centre Pompidou and in 2013 they won the prestigious Deutsche Bourse Prize.
