A historically significant presentation cane, awarded for military or civil service during World War I, and hallmarked for Birmingham, 1918.

Crafted from solid thornwood, the cane features a naturally curved crook handle, retaining its textured bark and dark reddish finish. It is fitted with a plain sterling silver collar, engraved: “For War Service. John Thomas”. The organic character of the shaft, combined with the precise hallmarked silver, gives it both aesthetic and historical value.

The collar is fully hallmarked for Birmingham 1918, with a lion passant symbol. The lion passant is a mark on silver that indicates the silver is at least 92.5% pure, which is the sterling standard. 

In good condition with small natural signs of use age related (please see the photos as they are a part of the description). Silver collar shows light wear, inscription fully legible. Shaft in good original condition with expected surface wear. Rubber ferrule added for practical modern use.
