"This is a sensational Unico. It has a sublime bouquet with dark red fruit, blood orange, marmalade, crushed stone and pepper. The palate is medium-bodied with effervescent red fruit that are irrepressibly precocious and seem to shimmer with delight. There is a keen thread of acidity, wonderful harmony and sense of vibrancy. It has an extraordinary finish, like eating an orange flavored vitamin pill. Somehow this reminds me of the 1982 Cheval Blanc in terms of its fabulous freshness and vivacity. 81,500 bottles produced."

Vega Sicilia is widely regarded as the greatest wine producer in Spain. The estate in Ribera del Duero is known for its dense, complex red wines made principally from the Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) grape variety. Its top wine, Unico, is one of Spain's most expensive and sought-after wines.

Vega Sicilia is located in the Valladolid town of Valbuena de Duero in a plain that follows the course of the Duero River. The winery has a thousand hectares of its own land that border to the north by the river and to the south by the forest. The vineyard extends over 250 hectares of land and in it is planted mostly the native variety, Tinta Fina in 80% and the remaining 20% is distributed by Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec.

Unico is the reference wine of Vega Sicilia, although it shares with the rest of the wines of the winery its special flash. It comes from the oldest vineyards of the property and in its composition, in addition to tempranillo, enters more cabernet sauvignon than merlot. Although it is old, the red wine maintains a liveliness provided by its good acidity, compensated with a resounding alcohol content. 
It has an intense ripe cherry colour, with the vivid edge of a wine that is always in fulness. 
In the aroma, the toasted touches of the wood prevail, with the hazel notes of its oxidative evolution during its years in barrel. It has a wide range of flavours of old but clean wood, with dry and pleasantly bitter tannins of oak, along with its touch of light sweetness of its alcohol. It is a very long flavour wine, with race.
