Description from the seller
Buddhist leporello manuscript with yellow script, Thailand, 19th century
Authentic Buddhist manuscript from Thailand, dating to the 19th century.
The work is executed as a leporello (accordion-fold) and consists of black-lacquered, handmade paper, inscribed with yellow ink in Thai script.
The individual pages are sewn together, which points to traditional production and use in a monastic-religious context. Such manuscripts typically served to transmit Buddhist texts, instructional content, or liturgical passages.
Signs of age and wear as well as minor damage are present. Some pages are slightly loose, but overall the item is well preserved and fully legible.
An original testimony to Southeast Asian book and writing culture in the 19th century.
