Austro-Hungarian Silver-Mounted Glass Liqueur Jug
Pest, late 19th century
Height: 23 cm | Weight: 330 g

Of elegant baluster form, the clear glass body decorated with acid-etched foliate and floral motifs, creating a soft, satin-like surface effect. Mounted with silver neck, hinged lid, spout and handle, the circular foot also executed in silver. Struck with Diana’s head mark for 800 standard silver (3rd standard, Pest) and maker’s mark “HD” (unresolved).

A refined piece of Austro-Hungarian applied arts, uniting the innovative acid-etching technique of the glassmaker with the silversmith’s craftsmanship. Given its proportions, this jug was likely intended for liqueurs, highlighting the intimate and ceremonial role of such objects in late 19th-century dining culture.

Condition: Excellent, no damages to glass or silver mounts.
