Albrecht Durer (1471-1528), after - The Virgin surrounded by Saints
The present example, dating back to the 19th century, is one of the countless engravings taken in every era from Dürer's original.
This is the sixteenth plate from a complete copy of the series printed by Hieronymus Höltzel, Nuremberg, 1511. It consists of a title-page and 19 illustrations, all but the last with Latin text in antiqua letterpress on the verso. This copy is bound together with the 'Large Passion' series (1895-1-22-607 to 618) and the second Latin edition of the 'Apocalypse' series (1895-1-22-580 to 595). For further information see 1895-1-22-641 (Meder 188).
