An exceptional George III period sterling silver teapot, crafted in London in 1775 by the distinguished silversmith John Schofield. This piece exemplifies the transitional aesthetics of late 18th-century English silver, blending the elegance of Neoclassical style with the ornate decorative vocabulary of the Rococo tradition.

The body is formed in an inverted pear shape, a design that reflects the shift from earlier Rococo exuberance toward the restrained refinement of Neoclassicism. The surface bears finely executed hand-hammered decoration, with visible spiral hammer marks inside the vessel, a testament to the artisan’s mastery.

The cast spout is embellished with acanthus scrolls, giving the piece a sculptural depth and aristocratic flair. On either side of the teapot are engraved family crests — those of the Hoare family and the Trotter family — accompanied by foliate and scrollwork ornament, symbolising heritage and prestige.

The handle combines sterling silver with ivory insulators, serving both as a practical heat barrier and as an elegant design feature. The cover and base are further enriched with a delicate beaded border, a fashionable motif in English silverware of the late 18th century, adding refinement to the overall design.
