Kavel bevat een doos met 16 poolbiljard ballen. Ballen zijn genummerd om het spel op een biljard tafel te spelen. In de 19e eeuw werd het spel populair in de Verenigde Staten en andere landen. Het kreeg verschillende namen, zoals "pocket billiards" en "pool biljart", afhankelijk van waar je was en welke versie van het spel je speelde. In die tijd begonnen de tafels zakken te krijgen waarin de ballen konden vallen. Hierdoor werd het spel spannender en leuker om te spelen. De kavel word zorgvuldig verpakt en verzekerd verstuurd.
