Roger Blondel (1912-1981) was originally from Rouen, where he also attended the École des Beaux-Arts. He specialized in the creation of statues and facades. In Rouen, for example, he worked on the facade and sculptures of the Palais de Justice. A document also mentions that he was affiliated with the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen.
Besides stone, Roger Blondel also worked with wood and terracotta.
The common thread of his work is women in all their facets.
His statues can be seen in various locations in France, but his distinct style of working with broad outlines and voluptuous women has also sometimes met with resistance as his work was considered offensive and too modern. For example, there is a known case where the mayor of a town eventually decided to pay for the statue himself, after which it was placed in the town anyway.
