Handsome copy of this wonderfully illustrated book, with colour plates and fold out map

An attractively illustrated volume of Venice, describing Italy's beautiful city of canals. A combination of history and travelogue. The first of these begins with the city's foundation at the Rialto and ends with its masons, painters, glass-workers & printers. The second part is a tourist guide, beginning with the Piazza San Marco & its basilica and ending with the Lido & Chioggia.

This fascinating title of Venice is beautifully and colourfully illustrated by Nelly Erichsen, W.K. Hinchcliffe and O.F.M. Ward. The book is richly illustrated with 112 illustrations, including frontispiece, 39 watercolour plates, 11 reproductions of pictures from photographs by Alinari, 51 illustrations in text, sketch map of Italy and Eastern Mediterranean, and fold out map of Venice in the 16th century.
 
Published by J. M. Dent, London, 1930. Publisher’s original decorative cream cloth boards, with gilt design and gilt lettering on upper board and spine. Illustrated endpapers. Top page edges gilt.

Condition
The book is beautifully bound, designed, and illustrated. Firm, and well bound copy. External covers in nice shape, with few light marks to rare cover. Internally the book is in very good condition indeed. A name and old date 1937 with neat ink on inside front cover page. Pages are very clean, with light foxing marks on first and last free endpaper pages, and page edges. All pages are tightly held at the gutter. Inner hinges are very good. The coloured plates make this a truly beautiful book (Excellent Copy) (Please see pictures).
