Het zijn dus wensbeelden, die de goden herinneren aan wat er van hen wordt verwacht als tegenprestatie van het offer: kinderen, familie en rijkdom, dus een goed leven.
Herkomst:
De Dogon-stam in Mali staat bekend om hun rijke artistieke traditie, en deze beelden zijn een voorbeeld van hun vakmanschap.
Techniek:
De "verloren was" giettechniek is een complex proces waarbij een wasmodel wordt gebruikt om een holle mal te creëren. Na het gieten met brons wordt de mal vernietigd, waardoor elk beeld uniek is.
