AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

General

Presented for the first time at the Paris Motor Show in 1968, the Jaguar XJ was designed to succeed the Type-S and mark a new era for the brand. Designed by Sir William Lyons, it combines modernity, tradition, and comfort while offering exemplary handling.
This 1969 model is equipped with the famous Jaguar XK 4.2-liter engine, paired with a three-speed automatic transmission.

Purchased in France in 2022, this XJ belonged to a mechanic who had begun its restoration. Aside from fitting an stainless steel exhaust system and completely overhauling the engine (including resurfacing the block), many repairs remained to be done. Its excellent bodywork and chassis condition, free of structural corrosion, motivated its acquisition. The car is registered on a French collection registration document.

Bodywork & Painting

The bodywork is distinguished by its exceptional condition for a vehicle of this age. The undersides are sound, with only some superficial traces of corrosion, and the original protective coating is still present.
Some paintwork remains to be considered, particularly on the front left wing, or even a complete paint job for a perfect finish. Overall, the car has a beautiful appearance and retains the purity of the lines drawn by Lyons.

Technique

A significant series of mechanical works has been carried out since 2022 to improve the vehicle's reliability.
The fuel pumps were replaced before the purchase. Subsequently, a new alternator, a belt, a water pump, and a radiator were installed. The braking system was completely renovated: removal of the IRS for the replacement of the discs, rear calipers, brake pads, and handbrake. All the rear suspension silent blocks and shock absorbers were changed.
At the front, the original calipers have been replaced with four-piston Fosseway Performance models, the standard shock absorbers with adjustable gas versions, and the steering rack has been refurbished with a new seal kit.

The servo brake has been replaced, along with all hydraulic hoses and seals. A high-power starter has been installed, the carburetors tuned by an experienced Jaguar specialist, and an electronic ignition 123 Ignition with a high-performance coil now completes the system.
All lighting has been upgraded to LED, and many electrical components have been replaced (contactors, sensors, relays, flashing unit, etc.).
The vehicle drives regularly today, approximately 1,500 km per month, without any breakdowns or mechanical issues for over 15,000 km. Maintenance is carried out by a Jaguar specialist in the Paris region.

Interior

The interior has undergone a significant refurbishment. The full upholstery has been replaced with new material, and front seat belts with retractors have been installed. The audio system has been modernized with four JVC speakers and four tweeters, while a 1 DIN slot has been created to accommodate a modern head unit in place of the original radio.
The woodwork, whose varnish was damaged, has been re-paneled and re-varnished. Some interior finishes, notably the door panels, can still be improved. Nonetheless, the overall comfort and general presentation are very satisfactory.

Documents

A complete file of repair invoices accompanies the car, attesting to the quality and extent of the work carried out. The technical inspection, dated September 2025, is clean. The car is registered under a collection registration document.

REMISE

The vehicle is visible in Paris throughout the entire duration of the auction. It is ready to hit the road immediately and can be delivered by appointment or picked up on site.

Additional Information

Thanks to a complete overhaul of its mechanics, this 1969 Jaguar XJ6 is now fully reliable and extremely enjoyable to drive. It offers the authentic charm of the early XJ models combined with great ease of use. Aside from some aesthetic finishing touches, it is a reliable, comfortable, and rare example that captivates with its classic presence and consistently remarkable road behavior.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
