Kimono’ishô’dansu 着物衣装箪笥 (cabinet of drawers for clothing) - Wood, Metal, Paulownia/Kiri wood - Japan - Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century)

A stylish wooden kimono’ishô’dansu 着物衣装箪笥 (cabinet of drawers for kimono) in three sections. Fully restored, cleaned and waxed in Japan. It is made of indigenous kiri (paulownia) wood varnished in a sought after warm brown hue, a colour that we like to call ‘golden oak’. The top section features a pair of sliding doors fitted with a flower-shaped thumb grips. Right side opens to three small drawers. The middle section is fitted with a pair of large hinged doors, opening to reveal four pull-out drawers. The doors are adorned with a decorative back plate showcasing an intricate reticulated motif of a ‘5-7-5 paulownia’s’-crest 五七桐紋 (go-shichi kiri mon). The lower section consists of three full-width drawers, attached to a sturdy plinth. The smooth-running drawers are equipped with slender warabite-shaped metal bail handles set on oblong escutcheons, accompanied by small circular lock plates. The sides are fitted with retractable ‘pole carrying’ handles, allowing for easy transport and securing the sections in place. Period: Japan – Mid-Shôwa period (Mid-20th century). Dimensions: Height 161.3 cm (T 36.4 cm, M 57.4 cm, B+P 67.5 cm), Width 94.2 cm, Depth 41.8 cm. The kimono cabinet is in a very good completely restored condition. No keys included. Please look at the photos for a condition reference. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
