Eight-lobed porcelain jar with underglaze blue decoration. This heavily potted eight-lobed jar has a recessed base and a raised neck. The foot is thick and gritty and the base is glazed. It is painted in underglaze blue with an all-over pattern of a squirrel climbing among gourd vines. Both the squirrel and the vine are emblems of fecundity.
Unfortunately, the jar has been restored — with cracks, gluing, and a filler on one side, as you can see in the photographs.
In the last photograph, you can see an identical jar from the collection of the British Museum.
