Flower - Life: The Photographs of Nobuyoshi Araki. This collection was published to coincide with an exhibition held at the Los Angeles gallery “Over the Influence” in 2018. It was curated by Hisako Motoo, owner of the Japanese gallery “AM”. Though Araki has released a considerable number of works and photo books related to “Flower,” his engagement with flowers began around the time his beloved wife, Yoko, passed away in 1990. This book also opens with photographs from January 1990. Arashi, reflecting on Yoko and contemplating flowers and landscapes, creates works that embody “life,” sometimes “sex,” and ‘death’—truly narrating “Life.” Through the motif of “Flower” and the images of flowers Arashi has captured, one might even fall into the illusion that the book reflects not only the life of photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, but our own lives as well. Includes a separate booklet featuring texts by Motohashi and others.
