Wajimanuri輪島塗Wajima lacquerware - Tebako手箱 - Sugihira Aitarō杉平愛太郎 - Box - Refined wooden Tebako手箱 with nashiji lacquer and beautiful gold pine/bamboo/plum blossom maki-e - Wood - flower/pine/bamboo/plum

Refined wooden Tebako手箱 with nashiji lacquer and beautiful gold three Japanese traditional cultural factors -pine tree/bamboo/plum blossom and gold family crest maki-e design by excellent workmanship. To complete the work, a red cord acts as a closure for the box. A tebako (hand box) is a box used to store small everyday items such as cosmetics and stationery. It is large enough to be held with both hands, and as a traditional Japanese lacquer craft, many of them have been made with decorations. Techniques used include "makie," in which lacquer is applied to the surface and patterns are drawn with gold and silver powder, and "raden," in which shells are attached. Nashiji - literally, 'pear-skin ground'; name given to two widely-used techniques invented in the Kamakura period. In one, large irregular shaped gold flakes are scattered at differing angles in many layers in wet 'nashiji urushi', a highly translucent lacquer that has been tinted orange; a further coating is applied and polishing exposes the flakes to produce an uneven surface texture. This technique is often used to give a uniformly decorative surface to large but less important areas, such as the interior of drawers or the underside of boxes. In the other, a fine metallic powder is sprinkled onto a lacquered surface; when dry, a coat of transparent lacquer is applied and lightly polished. Dimensions: 25 x 22.5 x 7.5 cm Good condition, there are stains and wear off due to aging and using, please also take a look at the listed photos for a reference. Will be well packaged and shipping by Japan Post in fast delivery.
