Luxury gold lacquered go board and stone set - Gold, Lacquer, Wood - Yanagiyama - Japan - Shōwa period (1926-1989)
Item Description:
This is a finely crafted decorative miniature Go board (hime-goban) created by the esteemed maki-e lacquer artist Yanagiyama (柳山).
The board showcases intricate maki-e lacquerwork with seasonal motifs representing the beauty of nature across all four sides.
The front and back panels feature chrysanthemums (kiku) and plum blossoms (ume) alongside bamboo (take) — symbolizing longevity and resilience.
The sides are adorned with maple leaves (momiji), pine trees (matsu), and irises (shōbu), offering a rich tapestry of Japanese floral symbolism. These details are rendered in exquisite gold and colored lacquer, elevating the board to a work of art.
The set includes two maki-e decorated Go bowls (goke) and a full set of Go stones:
White stones: 178 pieces
