Pair of Original Art Nouveau Vases by Lauritz Jensen for P. Ipsens Enke – Model No. 331 – c. Two Rare Matching P. Ipsens Enke Vases – Model No. 331 – Designed by Lauritz Jensen (1899)

Offered here are two matching art nouveau vases from the renowned Danish ceramic workshop P. Ipsens Enke, both model no. 331, designed in 1899 by sculptor Lauritz Jensen.

Each vase is crafted in black-fired terracotta, measuring approximately 27 cm in height, and features an extraordinary high-relief decoration of a lizard (varan/dragon) climbing up the body of the vase, along with a detailed beetle motif near the base.

This particular model is one of the most visually striking and technically impressive forms produced by Ipsens Enke at the turn of the 20th century, combining organic naturalism with mythological symbolism – hallmarks of the art nouveau movement.

About the Artist – Lauritz Jensen (1859–1935)

Lauritz Jensen was a Danish sculptor known for his meticulous animal studies and lifelike modeling. He worked for several major porcelain and ceramic factories, including Bing & Grøndahl, Royal Copenhagen, and P. Ipsens Enke. His work often portrayed animals in motion or in dramatic natural scenes. The model no. 331 vases are a fine example of his signature style: blending realism, dynamic form, and decorative elegance.
