Original French edition published while Ferdinando Scianna was living in Paris. 134 black and white photographs, many of which were published full-page. Texts in French by Dominique Fernandez and Leonardo Sciascia. Photo captions at the end of the book. 
Ferdinando Scianna was born in Sicily in 1943. He began taking photographs in the 1960s and published his first collection of photographs, "Feste religiose in Sicilia" (Religious Festivals in Sicily), in 1965. This book was an immediate success (Referenced Parr & Badger vol. 3 p. 111). In 1973, he moved to Paris as a correspondent for a major Italian magazine and continued to passionately photograph Sicily. In 1982, Ferdinando Scianna joined the Magnum Photos agency, becoming a full member in 1989.
The photographs in this book capture the rural culture of Sicily in the 1960s and 1970s.
