Masque ancien, culture Guéré Wé, Côte d'Ivoire. H.29 cm

Impressionnant masque Guéré ou Wé de Côte d'Ivoire. Il se dégage de cette oeuvre une force puissante et primitive. C'est le but premier de ces masques, créer la peur et l'effroi. En cas de conflit entre clan, ces masques sortent. Ils peuvent régler les conflits sans que le sang ne soit versé ni que l'honneur d'un des clans ne soit bafoué.
Ce masque porte une expression dur, son regard est perçant, sa bouche entrouverte est menaçante. Il nous montre ses dents, celles-ci en métal. Les volumes sont habilement traités et typiques des masques de cette culture. Il est recouvert de plusieurs couches de peinture ancienne. Les couleurs sont belles et vives. Des tissus ornent le contour du masque. Des charges magique ou des talismans sont placés dans les petits paquets en tissus autour de sa mâchoire. Quelques accidents, vendu en l'état, voir photos. Une belle pièce de collection ancienne et authentique, circa 1940.
