Angelika Platen (geb. 1942) zählt zu den bedeutendsten deutschen Fotografinnen im Bereich der Künstlerporträtfotografie. Seit den späten 1960er-Jahren dokumentiert sie präzise und mit feinem Gespür die Gesichter und Persönlichkeiten der internationalen Kunstszene – von aufstrebenden Talenten bis zu weltbekannten Ikonen.
Ihre Fotografien zeigen Künstler*innen nicht nur als öffentliche Figuren, sondern auch als Menschen in konzentrierten, oft intimen Momenten. Zu ihren berühmtesten Porträts zählen Aufnahmen von Joseph Beuys, Sigmar Polke, Marina Abramović, Georg Baselitz, Neo Rauch, Ai Weiwei, Wolfgang Tillmans und vielen anderen.
Platen arbeitet bevorzugt in Schwarz-Weiß und setzt auf natürliche Lichtführung sowie authentische Settings – oft im Atelier, während der Arbeit oder in persönlichen Situationen. Ihr Werk wurde in zahlreichen Museen und Institutionen ausgestellt, u. a. im Martin-Gropius-Bau Berlin, der Hamburger Kunsthalle und im ZKM Karlsruhe.
