A beautiful rectangular Swiss hand-wound men´s wristwatch from 1939, signed "Omega", on dial, case and movement in exceptional and fully original condition. The watch features a 100% original, untouched black dial with its factory lacquer and original hands – never refinished or altered. Original double-domed crystal without scratches. Stainless steel case signed “Acier Staybrite; Omega; Fab Suisse; Swiss Made” with additional inner case. Caliber T17 movement signed “Omega; Swiss; 15 Jewels”, specifically designed for tank-style watches, in perfect condition and recently serviced (see below). 

The double-domed crystal causes some light reflections in the photos, but in reality, both the crystal and dial are clean and clear.

First-class vintage but nearly unused black lizard leather strap by the Austrian manufacturer “Hirsch”, signed “Hirsch Lizard”. Original Omega pin buckle, also presumably from the pre-war period, featuring the distinctive Omega symbol on the front and signed “Acier Inox Swiss” on the reverse. Watch, strap and buckle make together a wonderful ensemble!

The watch has been freshly serviced by master watchmaker György Kricsik, as evidenced by the warranty card and the marking inside the case (see photos). The valid warranty card is included as part of the lot. I have tested the watch for several days; the movement runs well with excellent accuracy. The daily rate deviation is only a few seconds, and I noticed an impressive power reserve of more than 2 days.

The case shows only minor signs of age consistent with gentle wear, preserving its elegant Art Deco proportions and charm. Calibre T17 is considered as one of Omega’s finest and most reliable form calibres of the pre-war era. A fine example of Omega’s early rectangular design, highly collectible and hard to find in such original condition.

For shipments outside the EU, the lizard leather strap will not be included due to legal regulations (wildlife protection laws). Instead, the watch will be shipped with a suitable leather strap, the original Omega pin buckle is, in any case, part of the lot.
