In de jaren 40 realiseerde Jean-Louis Domecq, dat hij een lamp nodig had die geschikt was voor de activiteiten van zijn vak. Vervolgens begon hij zich een lamp voor te stellen en te ontwerpen met een scharnierende arm die eenvoudig en robuust was en geen draden in de verbindingen had.

In 1950 kwam het project tot stand door een definitieve tekening van de scharnierende lamp. De elektrische verbinding wordt mogelijk gemaakt door koperen contacten, die rotatie mogelijk maken tot aan de mechanische limiet van elk gewricht.

De lamp is zoals deze is afgebeeld op de foto´s. Let op de afmetingen wijzen wat af.
