Stefan Wewerka (1928–2013) was a German architect, designer, and artist renowned for his versatility and conceptual approach. After studying architecture in Berlin under Max Taut and working with Hans Scharoun, he turned to freelance art. In the 1960s, Wewerka became famous for his artistic dissections and modifications of everyday objects, especially chairs, which he transformed into sculptures. His signature chair sculptures and furniture designs (e.g., the three-legged B1 for Tecta) uniquely merged fine art and design, often humorously challenging strict Bauhaus functionality. He maintained that architecture must express artistic conception through "imagination and reason," cementing his legacy as an unclassifiable master across design and visual arts.
