Met Neil Armstrong en Michael Collins vloog Aldrin in 1969 met de Apollo 11-missie naar de maan. Toen duidelijk werd dat Aldrin deel zou uitmaken van de missie, voerde hij achter de schermen een verbeten strijd met Neil Armstrong om de eerste stap op de maan te mogen zetten. De beslissing van de NASA viel in zijn nadeel uit. Aldrin werd op 20 juli 1969 de tweede mens ooit op de maan (UTC). In Europa was het toen een dag later. Buzz Aldrin was wel de eerste mens op de maan die daar zijn behoefte deed, ook dat beschrijft hij in dit boek. 
Op vrijwel alle foto's die op de maan van deze reis zijn gemaakt, staat altijd Buzz Aldrin afgebeeld. Armstrong kwam er bekaaid van af. De meest iconische foto is ook van Buzz Aldrin. Na zijn reis belandde hij in een depressie, raakte aan de drank en moest uiteindelijk auto's gaan verkopen. Nu is het nog steeds een held in de geschiedenis, inmiddels 95 jaar oud en de nog enig levende mens die op de maan heeft gewandeld. 
Het boek beschrijft zijn leven en is ongelezen en dus in zeer goede staat. Voorzien van een prachtige foto's en handgesigneerd door Buzz Aldrin zelf. 
Daarnaast is er in het boek een dankbrief ingevoegd, getypt op het officiële briefpapier van NASA en gedateerd op 16 Augustus 1969. De brief is gericht aan een medewerker die uitvoerig wordt bedankt voor bewezen diensten en die heeft bijgedragen aan het succes van het Apollo project.
