Published 1970 by Arcadia Press, London The author Lieutenant Colonel John Masters (1914 – 1983) was a British novelist and officer of the Indian Army. He is known principally for his historical novels set in India, but he also wrote biographies like this work, which is considered to be the most illustrated biography on Casanova, portrayed here as a “man in and of his time”, the great chronicler of 18th century social life.
