Set of 4 embroidered Baroque panels – sacred embroidery in silk and metallic thread – the Netherlands 17th/18th century (ca. 1680–1730)
Detailed description
Splendid set consisting of four hand-embroidered panels from an antique Baroque liturgical vestment (probably part of a dalmatic or a chasuble).
Overall dimensions (including frames)
2 panels: 22 × 58 × 2 cm
2 panels: 22 × 75.6 × 2 cm
Technique and materials
Hand embroidery in multicolored silk and metallic threads in gold and silver.
Gold-colored silk background
Techniques: satin stitch, couching, pictorial effect embroidery.
Wooden frames with protective glass (added at a later date)
Epoca
Late 17th – early 18th century (ca. 1680–1730)
Conditions
Overall preservation is very good for the age.
Presence of slight wear, small wire losses, and chromatic alterations consistent with the age of the fabric and metallic materials.
The panels are stable and ready for display.
Origin
Italian private collection.
