Snowy Scene in Hokuetsu - Hokuetsu Setsuchū no Zu (北越雪中之圖) - Ukiyo-e - Katsushika Hokusai (葛飾北斉,1760–1849) - Japan (No reserve price)

Work Title: Snowy Scene in Hokuetsu - Hokuetsu Setsuchū no Zu (北越雪中之圖) - Ukiyo-e Artist: Hokusai Katsushika (葛飾北齋,1760-1849) Technique: Woodblock Print Signature: Signed by the artist on the block Paper Size: 23 × 35 cm (9.1 × 13.8 in) Image Size: 19.5 × 27 cm (7.7 × 10.6 in) Mounting Paper Size: 27 × 39.5 cm (10.6 × 15.6 in) Paper Material: Washi Supervised by: Tadao Takamizawa (高見澤忠雄) This ukiyo-e woodblock print was created by Katsushika Hokusai, a master ukiyo-e artist of Japan’s Edo period, in Bunka 8 (1815 CE). It was reissued in the 1960s under the supervision of Tadao Takamizawa. The composition centers on a winter snowscape in Japan’s Hokuriku region (modern-day Niigata, Toyama Prefectures, corresponding to the historical Echigo and Etchū districts): Travelers, herdsmen, and pack horses—cloaked in snow-resistant straw raincoats (蓑)—traverse a snow-covered mountain path. Distant snow-capped peaks and lakes amplify the cold, arduous atmosphere of winter travel, embodying the quintessential Japanese "seasonal motif" (季節風物,kisetsu fūbutsu) theme. A Japanese-language description is printed on the protective sheet accompanying the print. Due to the passage of time, the washi paper exhibits slight oxidative yellowing, but the overall condition remains good. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
