Stone - China - Qing Dynasty (1644-1911)

**English** A charming and finely carved Chinese turquoise figure of a female immortal (or court lady), Qing dynasty, second half of the 19th century (circa 1850-1900). The elegant standing figure is depicted in flowing robes with wide sleeves, holding a flower in her right hand and with ribbons floating from her high chignon. Beautifully detailed drapery and a serene facial expression. Natural matrix veining throughout, giving a vivid robin’s-egg blue colour with darker inclusions typical of the period. Mounted on its original finely carved hardwood stand (probably hongmu or zitan) with openwork ruyi-cloud decoration. Total height with stand: approx. 8 cm (figure alone approx. 6.5 cm). Weight 58 g. Condition: Very good antique condition. Intact, with no breaks or repairs. Only minor natural age-related nibbles to the extremities and light surface wear, as expected for a genuine 19th-century turquoise carving. Lovely original polish and attractive natural patina. The stand is in excellent condition. Provenance: Old European private collection, acquired in the 1970s-1980s.
