Ottoman Tepelik Headdress Ornament in Brass with Filigree and Glass Inlays, a 19th‑century Ottoman artifact.
Description from the seller
Rare 19th-Century Ottoman Tepelik Headdress Ornament in Brass with Filigree and Glass Inlays
A fine and rare 19th-century Ottoman tepelik—a traditional domed headdress ornament worn by women across Anatolia—crafted from solid brass and adorned with numerous cabochon glass inlays in vivid red, turquoise, and dark jewel tones. The broad circular plate is richly decorated in repoussé and chased motifs, featuring radiating foliate and geometric panels framed by delicate beaded borders and rope-twist edging, exemplifying the refined metalwork traditions of late Ottoman provincial workshops.
Rising from the center is the characteristic domed rosette of the tepelik, formed in openwork ribs and granulation-style beading, giving the ornament its iconic architectural silhouette. The reverse side preserves its original hand-forged surface, attachment loops, and untouched age patina, indicating authentic wear as part of a bridal or festive costume.
A rare and beautifully detailed Ottoman tepelik, notable for its craftsmanship, and rich decorative character—an exceptional collector’s example of 19th-century ottoman jewelry arts.
Diameter: approx 13 cm.
