Hotoda, or Takichi Hododa, was a Japanese dealer, manufacturer, and exporter of Satsuma ware from Yokohama during the Meiji period (1868-1912). He established his company, Hododa Shoten, in 1893, becoming a prominent exporter of fine arts and curiosities to markets like the United States and Europe. Hotoda's business specialized in exporting Satsuma pottery, particularly the ornate and elaborately decorated style that became popular internationally during that era.
He started working with Satsuma pottery in 1890 and opened his own store in Yokohama in 1893. In 1897, he officially became a manufacturer and exporter, a role he held until the end of the Meiji period. Today, Hotoda is remembered as one of the late masters of Satsuma ware, known for the quality and artistry of the pieces he exported.
