Château Guiraud is the largest estate in Sauternais.
Its land, composed of sandy gravel and clay, requires regular drainage. Throughout the year, the vineyard receives care that respects traditional methods and the environment.
To obtain perfectly ripe and botrytized grapes, the harvest at Château Guiraud is rigorous, resulting in a strict selection. Yields are generally below average, often around 12 to 25 hl/ha, to produce a high-quality wine.
has marked a new chapter for this first classified growth of Sauternes, with a renewed focus on environmentally friendly practices.
Regarding the wine: Promoted to first growth in 1855, Château Guiraud is made from the best terroirs of Sauternes. Its blend combines 65% Sémillon and 35% Sauvignon, cultivated organically since 2011.
The vines, planted on typical gravel soils of the Left Bank Bordeaux, produce low yields, sometimes less than 10 hl/ha.
The harvest is meticulous: only grapes affected by noble rot, essential for sweet wines, are selected. In the cellar, fermentation mainly occurs in new barrels over three to six weeks.
The wine is then matured in barrels for about 18 months. Château Guiraud’s style is flamboyant: rich in liqueur, aromatic, and perfectly balanced. When young, it reveals notes of citrus and exotic fruits, which evolve over time into flavors of saffron and bitter orange marmalade.
A great wine that ages with elegance.
