Kōben Hakuba Ukiyo-e (紅蘋白葩) - Mizuno Toshikata (水野年方,1864-1905) - Japan (No reserve price)

Work Title: Kōben Hakuba Ukiyo-e (紅蘋白葩) Artist: Mizuno Toshikata (水野年方,1864-1905) Technique: Woodblock Print (木版画) Artist's Signature on Print: Present Paper Size: 27×40.5 cm (10.63×15.94 in) Image Size: 24×36 cm (9.45×14.17 in) Mounting Paper Size: 48.5×33.5 cm (19.09×13.19 in) Paper Material: Washi (和紙) This exquisite bijin-ga (美人絵) ukiyo-e woodblock print, Kōben Hakuba, is the work of Mizuno Toshikata (水野年方), a prominent shin-hanga (新浮世絵) artist of Japan’s Meiji-Taishō period. The original piece was created in the 1890s. He was the teacher of artists like Kiyokata Kaburagi (鏑木清方) and was renowned for his bijin-ga and magazine illustrations. This ukiyo-e woodblock print was reissued in the mid-1970s (c. 1975-1976) by Japan’s Takamizawa Institute (高見沢研究所) (or the successor of the Akiyama-kei hanmoto(秋山系版元)). This print depicts the daily outing of a Meiji-period woman: a beauty in a pale kimono with a dark blue obi stands sideways holding a folding fan; in the background are shrine/temple guardian lions (石獅子) and flowering trees, with attendants accompanying her on the right. The overall atmosphere is elegant, embodying Mizuno Toshikata’s signature style of "soft beauties + refined settings" — retaining the decorative charm of traditional ukiyo-e while incorporating the detailed realism of Western painting. Due to the passage of time, the washi paper shows signs of oxidation, yellowing, and yellow spots, but the overall condition remains good. - The picture is part of the description. The color of the item may be slightly different from the picture (due to camera and screen settings). - The successful bidder will be responsible for any customs duties and taxes (if applicable). - This item will be mailed by the postal service of Taiwan in the form of airmail with insurance attached.
