Description from the seller
Pair of Still Lifes
School: Spanish, 20th century
Author: Torres de Torres
A painter active in the second half of the 20th century, he is known for his intimate approach to still life and his use of soft color palettes and calm atmospheres that incorporate diffused light and balanced compositions. His work is characterized by a domestic sensibility and an expressive yet restrained brushstroke.
Style: Contemporary intimate realism
Technique: Oil on panel, 1991
A pair of still lifes are presented, each imbued with a quiet and melancholic atmosphere, typical of a softly lit domestic interior. In the first painting, the composition depicts a table in ochre and blue tones upon which rest a ceramic jug, a small lidded tea set, and several pieces of fruit. In the background, a transparent vase holds a bouquet of dried branches or withered flowers, the contrast between the fragility of the plant motif and the solidity of the everyday objects being striking.
In the second painting, the focus is on a white vase filled with reddish and pinkish flowers, accompanied by a small cup and a decorated box on the table. The diffused, atmospheric background reinforces the feeling of an intimate interior, creating a balanced scene that combines color and serenity.
Both works share a soft palette, delicate brushstrokes, and a luminous treatment that underlines the contemplative character of the objects represented, typical of the intimate Spanish realism of the 20th century.
Each work is presented in a classic wooden frame in dark mahogany tones, with straight lines and a sober profile, which harmonizes with the warm aesthetic of the compositions.
The frame comes as a gift. It may be damaged during transport even if it is properly packaged.
