Squirrel-shaped decorative figure in solid silver (915 silver), made in Spain and dating to 1940–1950, approx. 7 cm high, 4 cm wide, 11 cm deep, weight 190 g, designed as a table toothpick holder with a hollow trunk and leaf reliefs; good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Decorative figure in the shape of a squirrel – Chopstick holder / stick rest – Solid silver – Spain, circa 1940-1950
Charming handcrafted figure made entirely of solid silver, depicting a squirrel with a body sculpted with great realism, resting on an oval silver base. The piece holds a small hollow trunk with reliefs of leaves and fruits, designed to serve as a chopstick holder (table chopstick rest), although it can also be used as a decorative object or desk utensil holder.
The modeling is of remarkable finesse: the texture of the fur, the lively expression of the face, and the natural posture of the animal reveal the meticulous work of a Spanish silversmith from the mid-20th century. The star and head punch confirms its manufacture in Spain, and the silver has been verified by contrast.
Work dated between 1940 and 1950, a period in which Spanish goldsmithing was characterized by the revival of naturalistic and decorative themes with a strong sculptural sense.
Approximate measurements
Height: 8.5 cm
Width: 7 cm
Depth: 4 cm
Weight: solid silver piece (measured by hand, excellent density).
Condition: good preservation, with a light patina due to age and no restorations.
A piece of great artistic charm and collectible value, both for its sculptural quality and its practical function at the table. A representative example of Spanish silverware from the mid-20th century.
