This is a beautiful example of an french portable writing slope from the elegant Napoleon III period (c. 1850-1860).

The slope is crafted from a dark-stained or veneered hardwood, probably mahogany or rosewood, and is richly decorated with exceptionally fine inlaid brass work.

Design & Inlay: The exterior features a beautiful geometric pattern of double brass stringing along the edges. The lid is crowned by a handsome central brass cartouche—a hallmark of high quality from the period.

Interior: The interior opens onto a classic, unlined interior with compartments for pens, inkwells, and a tilted writing surface. The interior is finished in warm, contrasting wood.

Dimensions (Compact Model): Length 31 cm x Depth 10 cm x Height 7.5 cm. This smaller, portable size is ideal for a desk or display.
