Jôka 常花 - Gilded wood, Iron - Japan - Anno 2000 (Heisei period)

A spectacular pair of hourglass-shaped iron vases each adorned with 11 large gilded wooden lotus flowers and -leaves with refined details. Such arrangements are known as Jyôka 常花 (“everlasting flowers”) and are traditionally placed on or beside a Buddhist altar as symbolic offerings. The lotus flowers are shown at varying stages of bloom, from tightly closed buds to fully unfurled petals and broad leaves, representing the stages of spiritual awakening on the path toward Buddhist enlightenment. What sets this pair apart is its size; it is considerably larger than many similar sets, making it a rare find. As well as that it has such an extensive array of gilded flowers. The flowers, which are detachable from the vases, allow for customizable arrangements within the vases. The short lotus leaves both with a dated inscription: ‘Dedicated on October 21, 2000 (Heisei 12) by [names of previous commissioners]’ 平成十二年十月二十一日奉納[…] Period: Japan – Anno 2000 (Heisei period). Dimensions: Vase : height 24.5 cm, diameter 21.5 cm. Lengths of the flowers & leaves varies from 37.5 cm to 86 cm. The flowers are in a very good original condition with minimal traces of wear conform age. The vases are in a good original condition with superficial oxidation. Please look at the photos for a condition reference. When shipped we will add a certificate of authenticity.
