About the artist
Alain Bonnefoit was born in Paris in 1937.
Alain Bonnefoit is today one of the most illustrious representatives of the École de Paris, with over 200 solo exhibitions worldwide. He is a versatile artist (illustrator, painter, engraver, lithographer, sculptor) renowned globally for the quality and refinement of his works on his favorite theme: the female nude. He never tires of the full and delicate curves offered by the female body, never revealing its secrets, and celebrates Woman, the Nude, Beauty, and Voluptuousness with such talent that he has become the reference for forty years.
In addition to oil painting, Alain Bonnefoit is also a master of 'Sumie,' a traditional Japanese paper painting technique. Subsequently, he engaged in mixed media techniques, playing with materials.
He divides his career between Paris (Montmartre) and Italy (Florence), where he has established his second workshop, but also Japan and Korea.
961-1962, School of Applied Arts, Paris. He dedicated himself to sculpture and was a student of VOLTI, with whom he established a warm collaboration, the beginning of a faithful friendship.
In 1963, Alain Bonnefoit discovered Tuscany, a gentle province whose charm inspired him with landscapes.
In 1964, he approached the feminine nude, which would become his form of expression.
1969 - First major solo exhibition in Paris. Meanwhile, Alain Bonnefoit develops a passion for lithography. Since then, he has been creating all his lithographs himself, drawing on the stone or zinc plate and overseeing every step, from the first trial to the final print.
In 1975, his first trip to Japan profoundly marked him. Alain Bonnefoit discovered and deepened his understanding of the Japanese technique of Sumie, of which he can now be considered a master. His successive encounters with renowned Japanese artists imbued with Zen philosophy have shaped both the man and his work. Since then, he has regularly traveled to Japan to refine his mastery of Sumie.
1991 - The Hôtel de la Monnaie in Paris organizes a prestigious exhibition of 200 works in its honor and issues a medal and a bronze signed by A. Bonnefoit.
Alain Bonnefoit has held more than 200 solo exhibitions worldwide: France, Italy, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Réunion, Tahiti, New Caledonia, Korea, Japan, and more.
