Mask - Wood - Kpan - Baoulé - Ivory Coast

Description
Mask - Wood - Kpan - Baoulé - Ivory Coast
Late 20th century - Vintage - used with visible signs of wear

Baoule mask
H= 32 cm or 43cm with the custom made stand

I got this mask in my shop from a private person who inherited it. It is not very old in my opinion and probably made for decoratin, but it is very sensitively carved.
One small part missing at the ear ( see pictures), if you want I'll restore it for free, if you buy it send me a private message and it will be restored nearly invisibly.

The Baule are from the Ivory Coast since more than 200 years.
They share common mask traditions with the Guro, Senufo and Yaure peoples. This dance mask is a Kpan, (with fine coiffure and refined carving; it represent the Senior female in Goli ceremonies) . This mask’s symbolizes the elder intelligence and its downcast eyes suggest an introspective disposition.
